The Royal Life Saving Society (RLSS) Mauritius plays a vital role in promoting water safety and reducing drowning incidents across the island. They focus on educating the public, training lifeguards, and running programs to enhance safety in aquatic environments.
In addition to their drowning prevention campaigns, RLSS Mauritius boasts an elite team that participates in lifesaving sports. They have proudly represented the country in several Commonwealth Lifesaving Championships, bringing home medals and recognition. Preparations are already underway for their participation in the upcoming Lifesaving Commonwealth Championship in July 2025 in Wales.
During school holidays, RLSS conducts Rookie Lifesaving Programmes for school children, teaching essential lifesaving skills and drowning prevention knowledge. These programmes extend to swimming clubs, introducing pool swimmers to open water swimming. Surprisingly, some elite pool swimmers initially lack confidence in open water, but many have grown to embrace it and continue their open-water journeys.
By empowering communities with knowledge and fostering lifesaving talent, RLSS Mauritius ensures safer waters for all while inspiring excellence in aquatic sports.
